1 tequila… 2 tequila… 3tequila… MORE! (if you think that should say FLOOR, this blog is not for you. Seriously, please stop reading and try one of our other articles.)
Cinco de Mayo is here and Summer is right around the corner, which means it’s margarita season! Well, to be fair, it’s really tequila season. While margs might be one of the better-known tequila treats, there are tons of other mouth-watering, vision-blurring cocktails out there made with everyone’s favorite agave derived spirit. So, kick the season off right with Denver Bar Cart and go try some of our favorite tequila treats from the best bars and restaurants around town!
Arta Reposado Cucumber/Grapefruit Mojada (Arta Reposado, cucumber, mint, grapefruit juice, soda)
LOCATION: Machete Tequila + Tacos, Lodo
This drink was a tough pick because Machete offers some of the best tequila cocktails in town! Next time you’re there, make sure you try “The Lucky One” too. Oh, and did we mention they have 2 dozen different, yet all delicious street tacos?! You should definitely start with a dozen of those.
Pineapple Habanero (Pineapple, Tequila, Patron Citronage, Lime Juice, Habanero)
LOCATION: T/ACO an urban taqueria, Lodo
T/ACO offers great ambiance and continues to thrive even though it opened its doors right across the street and next to some serious Denver staples in terms of Mexican food. Keep it up T/ACO – we love you!
Pinche Paloma (Exótico Blanco, Fresh Grapefruit & Lime, Agave Nectar, Squirt, Salted Rim)
LOCATION: Pinche Taqueria tacos tequila whiskey, Colfax
Pinche Tacos was once best known as a food truck, but their amazing “comida de la calle”—mexican street food, deserved a more permanent place for fans. This led to the restaurant on Colfax and York, which we’re grateful for because now we can enjoy their tasty cocktails at a table instead of brown-bagging a 40oz on the corner (which of course still happen from time to time).
Mexican Old Fashion (Espolón Reposado, Patron Citronge, bitters, cherry and orange)
LOCATION: The Matador, Highlands
The Matador has become a Highlands staple in just 6 short months of operation. With over 100 tequilas, they’ve got a drink or three for everyone. They also offer 3-6p happy hour 7 days a week, with 2-4-1 $5 tacos as Denver Bar Cart favorites.
Smoke on the water (Sombra Mezcal, watermelon, mint cucumber syrup, soda water)
LOCATION: Comida Cantina, Lodo
Comida Cantina can be found on Brighton Blvd (just after Broadway turns into Brighton) in one of Denver most unique dining and retail experiences, The Source. This was another tough pick because Comida knows how to slang tequila. Get in there and try EVERYTHING!
Fuego Verde (Corazón blanco, muddled jalapeño & cilantro, fresh lime, agave nectar, slice of jalapeño, cilantro sprig)
LOCATION: Lola, Highlands
Another Highlands staple, Lola has one of the best menus on this list. We’ve been enjoying the happy hours and brunch for years. They also offer live music every Sunday and although we left them off our Taco Tuesday list (sorry guys!) they have great special tacos every Tuesday.
The Valdez (Don Julio Reposado, muddled cucumber and orange, agave nectar, lime juice and a splash of cranberry juice)
LOCATION: Mezcal, Congress Park
Mezcal is another tequila lovers dream joint. They offer some of the most unique and delicious tequila cocktails in town and with an early and late happy hour every night, it’s easy to get a killer deal as well. And while this blog is about tequila, their happy hour food menu is also worth writing home about.
